STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT ON THE MURDER OF DR. GEORGE TILLER

I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.

Bullshit. People endorsing McCain in late 2007 were hopeless optimists, not savvy. Those were the dark days of the campaign, with a broken-down bus and almost no media coverage. A small enough media retinue, in fact, that Gov. Huntsman and his wife and I once split a brace of donuts while waiting in the Manchester airport for a staffer to pick us up—I was the only other person there.

In the long view, perhaps a detail like that doesn’t matter, or tell us anything about what kind of ambassador he’ll be. But I think it says something about the kind of person he is. (Also he’s in favor of civil unions which is not ideal but, yowza, coming from a Mormon guv of Utah, I will count it as progress.)

Who's Twittering From Nerd Prom?

So glad you asked.

A Moses-playing Charlton Heston parts the animated waters of the Red Sea, out of which rises the quasi-presidential seal the Obama campaign used for a brief time earlier this summer before being mocked into retiring it. The seal, which features an eagle with wings spread, is not recognizable like the campaign’s red-white-and-blue “O” logo. That confused Democratic consultant Eric Sapp until he went to his Bible and remembered that in the apocalyptic Book of Daniel, the Antichrist is described as rising from the sea as a creature with wings like an eagle.

I saw this ad during “A Shot of Love,” so I think...

I saw this ad during “A Shot of Love,” so I think you can understand why it was already about halfway through this ad when I realized that it was not, in fact, a very clever PSA for alcoholism. After all, most of us are used to buying books based on the quality of the text and/or the reputation of the author. Here at Book Décor, however, we see books for more than their intellectual value. We also perceive them as excellent design investments. If you want a book that you can read, enjoy and then toss aside, then head to your nearest bookstore. If, on the other hand, you are in the market for beautiful antique volumes whose appearance is more important than the actual text, then you’ve come to the right place. At Book Décor, we specialize in decorative books. From leather-bound foreign novels to gilt-accented antique texts, our books serve as magnificent design elements.”

Otherwise Known in the Cox-Lehmann Household as "a Weeknight"

“Bridget Jones…goes back to her miserable bedsit, sits down, pours herself an enormous glass of chardonnay, sits there with mascara running down her cheeks saying, ‘Dear diary, I’ve failed again, I’ve poured an enormous glass of chardonnay and I’m going to put my head in the oven.’ Great marketing aid!”

It's True That Rachel Ray Does Make Me Hate America

Malkin: “Many readers have e-mailed about, Dunkin Donuts’ spokeswoman Rachel Ray’s clueless sporting of a jihadi chic keffiyeh in a recent DD ad campaign.
