The sensationalistic gun crimes that make the front pages across the country are not the ones that have the largest impact. Separate shootings in Chicago continue to run up double-digit homicides over the span of days or weekends. It is difficult to believe that the color of the victims’ skin is not a factor in the lack of national attention to this slow-motion atrocity. The President has not visited to console the victims, though as one reporter noted, “If he visited after every weekend where 30+ people were shot, he’d be here every summer weekend.” More here.
